Augusta, Maine — Two little-known Delaware nonprofits have contributed at least $750,000 to a super PAC running attack ads against likely Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, according to Sludge and federal campaign finance records.
Sludge reported that Condorcet Initiative Corp. gave $500,000 to Pine Tree Results PAC, while Ardleigh Impact Corporation contributed another $250,000. Pine Tree Results has spent nearly $4 million attacking Platner, who is seeking to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a race that could help decide control of the U.S. Senate.
Both nonprofits list a Springfield, Virginia address connected to Staci Goede, a former chief financial officer of the Republican State Leadership Committee. Neither group appears to have a public website or visible activity beyond political spending.
The Campaign Legal Center filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission in 2024 alleging Ardleigh looked like a straw donor used to hide the true source of more than $2.5 million in contributions to federal PACs. The watchdog says such schemes undermine voters’ ability to know who is funding political messages.
The allegation has not been resolved. The FEC has lacked a quorum, limiting its ability to act on complaints.
