HOUSTON, TEXAS — Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico is accusing Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton of violating the election laws he has repeatedly pledged to enforce.
This comes after reports from The Texas Tribune and ProPublica that Paxton voted in six elections after moving out of the Collin County address on his voter registration. He left the home he shared with his wife, state Senator Angela Paxton, in 2024 during their divorce.
Three election law experts told reporters that Paxton’s voting could violate Texas law. State rules let people vote from a previous address if they plan to return, but these experts doubt that exception fits here.
The Collin County Democratic Party filed a complaint with the secretary of state, asking for an investigation into possible election fraud. The office said a staff attorney is reviewing it. Since state law sends these complaints to the attorney general, and Paxton runs that office, there is a clear conflict.
Talarico says this shows hypocrisy in Paxton’s focus on voter fraud. Paxton has not explained his registration and has not been charged. His campaign responded by pointing to Talarico’s record on law enforcement instead.
