PORTLAND, Maine — Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner abruptly canceled a planned trip to Washington, D.C., and New York City after reporters reportedly visited his family’s home and family-owned business in Maine.

According to multiple reports, journalists visited the home of Platner’s mother-in-law and a restaurant owned by his mother on Wednesday. Following the visits, Platner canceled a scheduled appearance with the veterans advocacy group VoteVets and ended the remainder of his interstate campaign trip.

The developments come as Platner continues to navigate a series of controversies that have drawn national attention. Most recently, reports surfaced alleging that Platner sent sexually explicit messages to other women while married. The allegations follow previous disputes involving old social media posts and criticism over a tattoo that opponents argued resembled Nazi imagery before it was later covered.

Despite the controversies, Platner has continued to build support among prominent Democrats as he seeks the party’s nomination to challenge Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) in 2026. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has endorsed Platner after initially encouraging Maine Gov. Janet Mills to enter the race. Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have also backed his candidacy.

When asked this week about his support for Platner, Schumer reiterated his endorsement and expressed confidence that Democrats could defeat Collins and regain control of the Senate.

Recent polling from the University of New Hampshire reportedly shows Platner holding a narrow lead over Collins in a potential general election matchup. With no major Democratic challenger currently in the race, Platner remains the frontrunner for his party’s nomination despite ongoing campaign challenges.
