Memphis, Tennessee — A Drug Enforcement Administration agent fatally shot a person Wednesday morning while serving a drug warrant with the Memphis Safe Task Force, marking the second fatal task force shooting in four days.

The U.S. Marshals Service said agents went to a hotel on Poplar Avenue around 8:30 a.m. to serve a warrant. According to officials, the person inside refused to open the door, agents breached the room, and the person pointed a gun at task force members before a DEA agent fired. No officers were injured.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting at the request of 30th Judicial District Attorney General Steve Mulroy. The agency is also investigating Sunday’s fatal shooting of 20-year-old Tyrin Johnson, who was shot by two Tennessee National Guard members during a downtown pursuit.

The Memphis Safe Task Force was created under President Donald Trump as part of a federal anti-crime push in Memphis. The Associated Press reported Wednesday’s shooting was the fourth fatal incident involving the task force since May.

Officials have not released the name of the person killed in Wednesday’s shooting. The TBI will submit its findings to the district attorney after the investigation.
