Washington, D.C. — The Department of Justice acknowledged Friday that it has removed online news releases related to Jan. 6 Capitol riot prosecutions, calling the records “partisan propaganda” tied to the Biden administration.

The deleted releases documented criminal charges, guilty pleas, convictions, and sentencings connected to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The move marks another major shift in how the Trump administration is handling cases tied to the riot after President Donald Trump pardoned or commuted sentences for more than 1,500 defendants shortly after returning to office in 2025.

The DOJ defended the decision through its rapid response account on X after journalists noticed the missing records. “We are proud to reverse the DOJ’s weaponization under the Biden administration,” the department stated.

Among the removed materials were releases tied to prosecutions of members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, including seditious conspiracy convictions. Last month, the Justice Department asked a federal appeals court to vacate several of those convictions, a request the court later granted.

The development also follows the administration’s announcement of a $1.776 billion compensation fund intended for individuals who claim they were unfairly investigated or prosecuted by the federal government. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has declined to rule out whether some Jan. 6 defendants could seek compensation through the program.

Critics argue the administration is attempting to rewrite the public record surrounding the Capitol attack, while supporters say the changes address political bias in past federal prosecutions.
