Paris, Kentucky — Former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin was arrested Thursday while working as an extra on a movie set after authorities acted on an outstanding bench warrant tied to a child support dispute.
Bevin, a Republican who served as governor from 2015 to 2019, was taken into custody in Bourbon County and later transported to the Jefferson County jail in Louisville.
Jefferson Family Court Judge Angela Johnson had issued the warrant after Bevin repeatedly failed to provide financial records and appear for hearings involving child support for his adopted son, Jonah Bevin. The requested documents included information about Bevin’s income, bank accounts and tax returns.
Johnson previously wrote that Bevin had shown “complete disregard and utter disrespect” for the court. On Friday, she ordered him to serve 60 days in jail for contempt.
The arrest reportedly occurred while Bevin was appearing as an extra in a Christmas movie being filmed at a Bourbon County horse farm.
Bevin has previously argued that the judge appeared focused on finding a reason to jail him, while attorneys representing his son have said the case demonstrates that no one is above court orders.
The underlying child support dispute remains unresolved, with the court still considering the broader financial issues in the case.
