Washington, D.C. — Hunter Biden is leaving open the possibility of running for president in 2028, though he stopped well short of announcing a campaign.
During an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis, the son of former President Joe Biden was asked whether he planned to seek the White House.
“If I get your endorsement, I may have to,” Biden replied. He also said he had not made up his mind and praised several Democrats who could enter the 2028 race, including Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Biden said two issues were particularly important to him: adherence to the Constitution and rule of law, and addressing addiction. He said he wants the next president to respect the constitutional system and noted that millions of Americans continue to struggle with substance abuse.
The remarks represent a shift from comments Biden made only weeks earlier, when he joked that if he announced a presidential campaign, people should check whether he had relapsed. He has spoken publicly about his own history of addiction and recovery.
There is currently no formal Hunter Biden campaign, exploratory committee or declaration of candidacy. His comments instead add another name to an already broad field of Democrats being discussed as possible 2028 contenders.
The presidential election remains more than two years away, and the Democratic field is still largely unsettled.
