WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran, stating the United States had secured a “total and complete victory” as hostilities paused shortly before a key deadline.

The agreement includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route, after Iran accepted terms tied to a broader negotiation framework. Trump had earlier warned that failure to comply could result in U.S. strikes on Iranian infrastructure.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Israel would support the ceasefire terms, though officials noted the agreement does not extend to ongoing conflict involving Hezbollah in Lebanon.

According to reports, the deal was reached roughly 90 minutes before Trump’s deadline expired. The president also credited international involvement, including China, with helping bring Iran to the negotiating table.

Despite the pause in direct conflict, uncertainty remains. Iran emphasized the ceasefire does not represent a formal end to the war, and separate regional tensions continue. Missile activity involving Iran-backed groups has also been reported after the announcement.

The conflict has already displaced more than 1 million people and resulted in significant casualties across the region, with global leaders urging adherence to the ceasefire to prevent further escalation.

Talks are expected to continue later this week as officials work toward a longer-term resolution.
