WASHINGTON, DC — Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent said conservative activist Charlie Kirk urged him last year to prevent U.S. involvement in a potential war with Iran. Kent made the claim during an interview with Tucker Carlson, describing a June encounter at the White House in which Kirk told him to “stop us from getting into a war with Iran.”
Kent referenced Kirk’s later assassination, suggesting unanswered questions remain, though he said he was not directly attributing responsibility to any party. His remarks come after Kent resigned from his post, citing opposition to U.S. military action against Iran.
The comments have drawn criticism from some Trump allies, with conservative figures dismissing Kent’s statements as speculative. Kent has been a vocal critic of the administration’s Iran policy, arguing the conflict was unnecessary and influenced by external factors, including Israel.
The White House and its supporters have defended the strikes, maintaining they were necessary to counter what officials described as imminent threats from Iran.
