Malibu, California — A trespasser entered the property of former Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday night but was stopped by private security before reaching the home, according to law enforcement officials and Harris’ spokesperson.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. after Harris’ security detail reported a suspicious person. Deputies made contact with the individual, who was advised to leave and departed voluntarily without incident. No arrest was made, but authorities filed a trespassing report and said patrols in the area would be increased.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not home at the time. Spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said security personnel stopped the person after they had entered the property but before reaching the residence.
Former vice presidents typically receive Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office. Former President Joe Biden had extended Harris’ protection beyond that period, but President Donald Trump revoked the extension in August 2025. The extended coverage otherwise would have continued into 2026.
The sheriff’s department has not publicly identified the trespasser or disclosed a motive. Authorities have also not indicated that the incident involved any threat against Harris or Emhoff.
The couple purchased the Malibu residence after leaving Washington, and Harris now relies on private and local security arrangements rather than full-time Secret Service protection.
