Washington, D.C. — Democrats are launching a nationwide election-protection program aimed at training tens of thousands of volunteers to monitor polling places, encourage early voting and respond to misinformation ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
The initiative, called the New Battlefield Project, is being organized through the Association of State Democratic Committees. Organizers say they want trained volunteers present at roughly 25% of the nation’s 95,000 Election Day polling locations, with an emphasis on competitive districts.
Volunteers are expected to wear blue vests and assist voters with issues such as finding the correct polling place or understanding provisional-ballot procedures. They will also document possible voter intimidation or interference and relay problems to election-protection teams.
The program also includes a national “bank your vote” campaign encouraging Democrats to cast ballots early, either by mail or in person, and a “democracy defense network” designed to track disinformation, artificial-intelligence manipulation and other alleged election-interference tactics.
The effort comes amid debate over whether federal immigration agents could appear at polling sites. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has said ICE would not patrol polling places generally but could act there in response to a specific threat or to serve a warrant.
Democratic officials say the new structure is intended to make election protection more coordinated than in previous cycles. The DNC has also expanded volunteer and staff training programs throughout 2026 as both parties prepare for closely contested House and Senate races.
