Washington, D.C. — Senate Republicans have included $1 billion in proposed funding for security tied to President Donald Trump’s planned White House ballroom as part of a broader immigration and law enforcement spending package.

The legislation, totaling roughly $70 billion, allocates funds to agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Border Patrol, and the Department of Justice. Within the bill is a provision directing $1 billion toward Secret Service-related security enhancements connected to the East Wing redevelopment project.

Trump previously stated the ballroom project, estimated at $300–$400 million, would be funded through private donations. However, lawmakers say additional security measures, both above and below ground, are necessary because high-level officials attend such events.

Supporters argue the funding is justified on national security grounds, particularly following recent violence at a high-profile Washington event. Critics, including Democratic lawmakers, contend the provision diverts taxpayer money toward a project tied to the president while broader economic concerns remain.

The bill also includes tens of billions of dollars for immigration enforcement operations through 2029. Republicans plan to advance the measure using budget reconciliation, allowing passage without bipartisan support in the Senate.

The proposal is expected to face continued debate as lawmakers weigh spending priorities and oversight concerns.
