Atlanta, GA — The DOJ is seeking the names and contact information of individuals involved in administering the 2020 election in Georgia’s Fulton County, prompting legal pushback from local officials.
County attorneys filed a motion to block a grand jury subpoena that would require disclosure of employees and volunteer poll workers tied to the election. Lawyers for the county argued the request is overly broad and could expose individuals to harassment.
The move follows earlier federal actions, including the FBI’s seizure of ballots and election materials from a Fulton County warehouse in January. Additional subpoenas have been issued in other states, including Arizona and Michigan, as part of broader efforts to obtain election-related records.
Officials note that certified results showed Donald Trump lost Georgia to Joe Biden by 11,779 votes. Multiple reviews and investigations have not found evidence of widespread fraud, including findings by Trump’s own former attorney general.
Election administrators from both parties have raised concerns that sharing detailed voter and worker data could violate privacy protections. The Justice Department has argued that access to such information is necessary for its inquiries.
