WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump said a planned White House ballroom will include a military bunker as part of expanded security features tied to the large-scale renovation project.

Trump told reporters the U.S. military is constructing a secure underground complex beneath the new ballroom, which is being built after demolition of part of the East Wing.

The project replaces an area that previously housed the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, a secure bunker used during national emergencies, including the September 11 attacks and periods of domestic unrest. Trump indicated the new facility would significantly expand those capabilities.

In addition to the underground structure, the ballroom itself is expected to feature enhanced protections, including bulletproof glass and reinforced roofing designed to guard against drone threats. Trump said such measures reflect evolving security concerns.

The ballroom project is estimated to cost up to $400 million and is being funded by private donors, including major technology companies, according to the report. Trump has stated that no taxpayer funds will be used.

The president added that construction is currently ahead of schedule and under budget.
