ATLANTA, GEORGIA — A North Carolina man pardoned by President Donald Trump for offenses connected to Jan. 6 is facing new federal charges after prosecutors say he threatened to execute judges who handled Capitol riot cases.

Cleveland Grover Meredith Jr. was arrested Monday over an April Facebook post allegedly declaring that “ALL J6 Federal JUDGES will be EXECUTED!” Prosecutors say he later posted additional messages warning that “firing squads will commence 11/04/26” following the midterm elections.

Meredith previously traveled to Washington around Jan. 6, 2021, but arrived after the Capitol attack because of vehicle problems. He was later arrested after threatening to shoot then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. FBI agents found firearms, high-capacity magazines and roughly 2,500 rounds of ammunition in his trailer.

He pleaded guilty and received a 28-month sentence. Trump included Meredith in his sweeping January 2025 clemency order covering offenses connected to Jan. 6.

Prosecutors now argue Meredith’s recent posts constitute genuine threats rather than political rhetoric, citing what they describe as a continuing pattern of violent online statements.

The new charges underscore that Trump’s pardon erased federal consequences for Meredith’s earlier offenses but provides no protection for alleged crimes committed afterward. Meredith is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
