LEXINGTON, Kentucky — A Kentucky man who won a $167 million Powerball jackpot is facing new criminal charges after authorities accused him of breaking into a home and stealing cash.

James Farthing, 51, was arrested Saturday on charges of burglary and marijuana possession following an alleged break-in at a residence in Lexington. Police said surveillance footage showed Farthing entering the home, where approximately $12,000 was reported missing.

Authorities later located Farthing at a nearby casino and took him into custody. Officers said they also discovered marijuana and related items in his vehicle during the arrest.

The incident marks at least Farthing’s third arrest since winning Kentucky’s largest lottery prize in April 2025. He had previously faced charges in Florida and Kentucky, including assault-related allegations and a pending intimidation case.

Farthing’s legal history reportedly includes multiple prior incarcerations before his lottery win. His case highlights ongoing legal challenges despite the financial windfall.

He is scheduled to appear in court this week on multiple charges, including the latest burglary allegation.
