Washington, D.C. — Jeffrey Epstein survivor Jess Michaels said she left a meeting with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche “disappointed, disturbed and undaunted,” criticizing the Justice Department’s handling of Epstein-related files and survivor concerns.
Blanche agreed to meet with Epstein survivors after pressure from Sen. Thom Tillis, whose vote could be important in Blanche’s confirmation process to become attorney general. Survivors have urged the Justice Department to continue investigating Epstein’s crimes and release more records while better protecting victim privacy.
Michaels told MS NOW that the meeting did not feel productive and said survivors were treated no differently than in past interactions with officials. She also accused Blanche of failing to acknowledge harm caused by the department’s document rollout, including concerns over redactions and victim privacy.
The Justice Department has released millions of Epstein-related files after Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, but Blanche said earlier this year that the department’s review was over.
Michaels urged Tillis not to support Blanche’s nomination unless he commits to working with survivors on the investigation.
