Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump said Vice President JD Vance will concentrate efforts on Democratic-led states in his new role overseeing federal fraud investigations.

Trump announced the initiative on Truth Social, describing Vance as a “fraud czar” whose work will target what the administration claims is widespread misuse of taxpayer funds. While the effort is described as nationwide, Trump said enforcement would primarily focus on states such as California, Illinois, Minnesota, Maine, and New York.

The announcement follows recent federal actions, including arrests tied to a $50 million healthcare fraud scheme in Los Angeles. Vance praised those operations, stating federal agencies are moving quickly to combat fraud affecting public programs.

The administration has also highlighted a large-scale fraud investigation in Minnesota involving Medicaid funds, which officials estimate could total billions of dollars. In response, federal authorities paused some Medicaid funding to the state and expanded enforcement efforts.

Officials, including Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz, have said fraud in federal healthcare programs could total up to $100 billion annually, underscoring the scale of the issue.

Critics have raised concerns about the political framing of the initiative, particularly its focus on Democratic-led states, while supporters argue it reflects where investigations have uncovered significant fraud.
