Cleveland, Tennessee – A Tennessee Christian school has agreed to pay $10,000 to former student Morgan Armstrong after she sued over being suspended and barred from graduation following a social media post coming out as gay.
Armstrong, then a senior at Tennessee Christian Preparatory School, alleged the school punished her after she publicly shared that she was in a same-sex relationship in April 2025. Her lawsuit said the school threatened to withhold her diploma and interfere with her college admissions.
Under the agreement, the school will pay Armstrong $10,000, rescind her suspension, expunge the discipline from her record, and refrain from making disparaging statements about her to colleges or universities.
The school denied discriminating against Armstrong and said the discipline involved alleged violations of its social media policy. Armstrong and her attorneys disputed that explanation, saying the punishment was excessive and tied to her sexual orientation.
Both sides said they continue to disagree about the facts and policy issues but agreed to resolve the case and move forward.
