Washington, D.C. – Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) claimed Tuesday that Republican Rep. Thomas Massie’s primary defeat in Kentucky was tied to his efforts to publicly release files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“Releasing the Epstein files was our demise,” Greene wrote on X after Massie lost to Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein in Kentucky’s Republican primary. “But it was worth every single bit because now everyone knows the truth.”

Massie had partnered with Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna on legislation requiring the release of records tied to Epstein’s estate and associates. President Donald Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act into law last year, leading to the publication of millions of pages of records in January involving high-profile political, financial, and business figures.

Trump strongly opposed Massie during the primary campaign, repeatedly calling him “disloyal” and backing Gallrein. The president also recently criticized Rep. Lauren Boebert after she publicly supported Massie and defended continued transparency efforts regarding the Epstein files.

Greene argued Massie’s defeat marked a turning point for the Republican Party, while Trump allies framed the race as proof that opposition to the president within the GOP carries political consequences. Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday that Republicans attempting to “destroy” Trump would ultimately lose because “this is the party of Donald Trump.”

Massie’s loss adds to a growing list of Republican lawmakers defeated after clashing with Trump or breaking from his political agenda.
