A coalition of states led by New York has filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump over his administration’s crackdown on gender-affirming care for transgender youth. Filed Friday in federal court in Massachusetts, the lawsuit accuses the Trump administration of using threats and investigations to bypass state protections and restrict access to trans health care.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and others say the administration’s actions violate the 10th Amendment by undermining state laws. The suit names Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and the Justice Department.

Hospitals in California, Illinois, and elsewhere have shut down youth gender clinics, citing pressure from recent executive orders. The administration has celebrated the closures.

The DOJ has issued 20 subpoenas to providers and drug companies, with doctors reportedly asked to hand over patient data. An FBI probe has also targeted three children’s hospitals. The administration equated gender-affirming care with female genital mutilation.

Major medical associations, including the AAP, strongly support gender-affirming care. Advocates say the federal campaign is pushing the care underground and increasing fear among trans families — even in states where the care remains legal.
