NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK — Several New York City parents say Mount Sinai Health System has stopped providing gender-affirming care to transgender minors, citing concerns over a proposed federal rule that could jeopardize hospital funding.

Parents told Gothamist that Mount Sinai informed them it would no longer accept new pediatric patients for gender dysphoria treatment and would not continue care for existing minors. One mother said her 16-year-old son, who had been receiving testosterone therapy, was referred to a private clinic. Another parent described a similar experience involving her 17-year-old son.

Mount Sinai declined to confirm whether it has ended services for transgender youth and did not respond to specific questions about the parents’ claims.

The reports come as the Trump administration considers a rule that would restrict Medicare and Medicaid funding to hospitals providing certain gender-affirming treatments to minors. That proposal has not yet been finalized.

State health officials recently reminded hospitals that New York law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Local officials also criticized NYU Langone after it ended its Transgender Youth Health Program, citing regulatory uncertainty.
