TEL AVIV, ISRAEL — U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee is facing sharp criticism from Arab and Muslim nations after stating in a televised interview that Israel has a biblical right to much of the Middle East.

During an appearance on “The Tucker Carlson Show,” Huckabee referenced Genesis 15, which describes a biblical promise of land from the Nile to the Euphrates. When asked whether Israel had a right to that territory, Huckabee replied, “It would be fine if they took it all,” later clarifying that Israel is not currently seeking expansion and has a right to security in land it legitimately holds.

His remarks prompted condemnation from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States. Egypt’s foreign ministry called the comments a “blatant violation” of international law, while Saudi Arabia labeled them “extremist rhetoric.” The League of Arab States said such statements inflame regional tensions.

There was no immediate response from Israel or the U.S. State Department.

The comments come as Israel’s borders and territorial claims remain central to regional disputes dating back to the 1967 war and ongoing debates over West Bank sovereignty and Palestinian statehood.
