New York City, New York — President Donald Trump and his former lawyer Michael Cohen publicly reconciled Thursday during a surprisingly friendly radio interview, years after Cohen became a key witness in criminal and civil cases against his former boss.
Cohen interviewed Trump on his WABC radio program, repeatedly referring to him as “boss” and saying their relationship was being “resuscitated.” Trump praised Cohen for recently recanting or criticizing portions of his past testimony and said prosecutors had “weaponized” Cohen against him.
Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to federal crimes including campaign-finance violations, tax evasion and lying to Congress. He later testified against Trump in the Manhattan hush-money prosecution, helping prosecutors secure Trump’s 2024 conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Trump has appealed that conviction.
The relationship has shifted dramatically in recent months. Cohen has increasingly criticized Manhattan prosecutors and questioned how his testimony was used against Trump. He also confirmed that he has resubmitted a presidential pardon application after an earlier request was denied by President Joe Biden.
Trump, who once called Cohen a liar and attacked his credibility, struck a markedly different tone Thursday, telling his former attorney that he understood the pressure he had faced.
