Washington, D.C. – Sen. Ruben Gallego is facing new scrutiny after Politico reported that his campaign committees and leadership PAC paid for family travel, child care, and donor events, including nearly $35,000 connected to the 2023 Super Bowl.

Politico reported that Gallego’s committees spent campaign money on trips involving Disney parks, Miami, Chicago, and other destinations, while also reimbursing more than $18,000 in child care expenses since 2019. Records also show spending tied to the Swallego Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee with Rep. Eric Swalwell, including Super Bowl tickets and a donor brunch.

A Gallego spokesperson defended the spending, saying campaign-funded travel with family can be allowed when tied to official political activity and that donor events are common across both parties. The spokesperson also said tickets were purchased at fair market value.

Federal rules generally prohibit campaign funds from being converted to personal use, but leadership PAC spending has long drawn criticism because rules can be looser and enforcement is often limited.

The report comes as Gallego is viewed as a possible 2028 Democratic presidential contender. Separate unresolved ethics allegations have also circulated, though no formal Senate investigation has been publicly confirmed.
