Washington, D.C. — Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb is warning that President Donald Trump intends to interfere with the November midterm elections “where possible,” though Cobb offered the claim as his assessment rather than evidence of a specific plan.
Speaking Thursday on MS NOW, Cobb argued that Trump’s decision not to spend more of his substantial campaign funds helping Republican candidates could reflect confidence that other administration actions will influence the election.
“I think Trump doesn’t feel he needs to spend this money because it is his intention to interfere with the elections and to steal these elections where possible,” Cobb said. Mediaite separately reported the same remarks.
Cobb also raised the possibility that Trump could pressure House Speaker Mike Johnson to challenge the seating of Democratic winners. No evidence was presented that Johnson has agreed to such a plan.
The warning comes amid an ongoing legal battle over Trump’s executive order tightening mail-ballot procedures. The administration has asked the Supreme Court to allow a Postal Service rule requiring states to provide lists of eligible mail voters and use specially approved envelopes with unique barcodes. The administration says the requirements strengthen election security, while state officials and voting-rights groups argue they could cause legitimate ballots to be rejected.
Cobb has become an outspoken Trump critic since serving in his first administration and has previously warned that the president could seek broader federal involvement in elections.
