WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced Sunday that the United States will begin blockading the Strait of Hormuz following failed peace talks with Iran, raising concerns about escalating conflict and global energy disruption.

According to Associated Press, Trump said U.S. naval forces would move immediately to interdict vessels and clear Iranian mines from the critical waterway. The Strait of Hormuz handles roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil shipments, making it a key strategic chokepoint.

The announcement comes after negotiations in Islamabad ended without agreement, with both sides unable to resolve disputes over Iran’s nuclear program. A temporary ceasefire remains in place but is set to expire April 22, leaving uncertainty about whether hostilities will resume.

U.S. officials indicated military assets, including naval destroyers, have already been positioned in the region. Trump warned that American forces are prepared to escalate further if Iran interferes with operations.

Iran has not publicly responded to the blockade announcement, and diplomatic efforts may continue through intermediaries, including Pakistan.

The situation remains fluid as global markets and regional security conditions react to the latest developments.
