WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s job approval has fallen to its lowest level recorded by The Economist/YouGov during his second term, adding to evidence that the administration is losing support over the economy and the war with Iran.

The survey, conducted July 25-27, found that 34% of adult U.S. citizens approved of Trump’s performance, while a record 62% disapproved. His net approval stood at negative 28 points, compared with negative 9 at the equivalent point of his first term. (yougov.com)

The decline was driven partly by weaker support among independents, Generation X voters and white Americans. Trump began his second term with a positive net rating in the weekly survey, but his standing has steadily deteriorated.

Economic dissatisfaction remains a significant problem for the administration. Gasoline prices have risen above $4 per gallon amid the Iran conflict, while consumer confidence fell again in July. The poll also found that 69% of Americans believed Trump had not clearly explained the objectives of U.S. military involvement in Iran.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed the findings, pointing instead to Trump’s 2024 election victory. Although individual polls vary, national polling averages also show substantially more Americans disapproving than approving of Trump’s performance.
