WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened major military strikes against Iran following a confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz, raising tensions as ceasefire conditions appear to deteriorate.
According to NewsNation, U.S. Marines seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly attempted to evade a U.S. naval blockade. Officials said Navy forces disabled the vessel by damaging its engine room before taking control.
Trump accused Iran of firing at ships in the strategic waterway, calling it a violation of an existing ceasefire. In response, he warned that the United States could “knock out every single power plant and every single bridge in Iran” if Tehran refuses a proposed agreement.
Iranian officials rejected renewed negotiations, stating they have no plans to participate in upcoming talks and criticizing U.S. demands as unrealistic. The standoff has further strained diplomatic efforts already stalled in recent weeks.
Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine also signaled continued enforcement actions, saying U.S. forces would target vessels involved in transporting Iranian oil as part of ongoing operations.
