WASHINGTON, D.C.Immigration enforcement arrests have more than tripled under President Donald Trump’s second term, with new data showing a growing share of those detained have no criminal charges or convictions.

According to data analyzed from the Deportation Data Project, average daily arrests by ICE rose from about 294 during the final year of the Biden administration to roughly 902 since Trump took office in January 2025. The increase reflects expanded interior enforcement, including arrests in neighborhoods, immigration courts, and federal facilities.

The data also shows that nearly 37% of individuals arrested under Trump had no criminal charges or convictions, up from about 21.5% previously. Analysts note that while immigration violations can still lead to enforcement action, many of those arrested are not accused of additional crimes.

Policy experts say the findings raise questions about the administration’s stated focus on targeting individuals with serious criminal histories. Ariel Ruiz Soto of the Migration Policy Institute said the data suggests that goal has not fully materialized.

ICE has not publicly commented on the findings. The data has limitations, including incomplete geographic reporting, but remains one of the most comprehensive recent snapshots of enforcement trends.
