WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Democrats are preparing a broad investigative agenda for President Donald Trump and companies tied to his political and business interests if they win control of the chamber in November, according to Reuters.
Senior Democrats and committee aides are discussing hearings, subpoenas and document demands focused on possible conflicts of interest, government contracts and financial relationships involving Trump and his family. The strategy prioritizes building an evidentiary record rather than immediately pursuing impeachment.
Potential targets include Paramount Skydance, YouTube, investment firm 1789 Capital, private prison operator GEO Group and security contractor Salus Worldwide Solutions. Democrats are also examining Venezuelan oil transactions involving Vitol and Trafigura, along with financial relationships involving major technology and investment firms.
Reps. Robert Garcia and Jamie Raskin have already sent records requests to several outside entities. Raskin previously sought communications involving Paramount’s settlement with Trump and the company’s merger approval process.
Democratic leaders reportedly want to avoid repeating Trump’s first term, when impeachment proceedings dominated congressional attention and allowed him to characterize investigations as partisan persecution.
Impeachment has not been ruled out. Instead, lawmakers say any such effort would come only after investigations establish evidence warranting it.
The White House dismissed the planning as another partisan effort against Trump and said the administration is prepared to respond to legitimate congressional oversight regardless of which party controls Congress.
