NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — Former Vice President Kamala Harris is borrowing one of Donald Trump’s signature 2024 campaign slogans as she urges Democrats to turn out in overwhelming numbers for November’s midterm elections.
Speaking Friday in New Orleans, Harris told supporters Democrats must make the election “too big to rig,” a phrase Trump repeatedly used while claiming, often without evidence, that elections could be manipulated against him. Harris used the slogan while accusing Republicans of “cheating” and arguing that Democrats need margins large enough to overcome efforts she says are designed to weaken their voting power.
Harris used the same phrase at the National Urban League conference in Nashville on July 31, where she said Democrats need to be “ruthless” politically while remaining focused on winning the midterms.
She also floated several major structural changes, including revisiting the Electoral College, expanding the Supreme Court from nine to 13 justices, and granting statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
Trump’s campaign prominently used “too big to rig” in 2024 as he urged supporters to produce turnout large enough to defeat what he claimed could be election manipulation.
Harris is now repurposing that language from the opposite direction, applying it to Republican voting policies and election administration rather than alleged Democratic fraud.
The phrase underscores how rhetoric once associated almost exclusively with Trump’s election grievances is increasingly migrating into Democratic messaging as both parties accuse the other of undermining fair elections.
