WASHINGTON, DC — More than 50 advocacy organizations are calling for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, citing what they describe as a pattern of misconduct and constitutional violations tied to immigration enforcement.
According to a letter obtained exclusively by The Hill, Voto Latino and a coalition that includes the Service Employees International Union, the Human Rights Campaign, and United Farm Workers are urging congressional leaders to move forward with impeachment proceedings. The groups are backing a House resolution introduced last month by Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., which formally calls for Noem’s removal.
The letter accuses Noem of obstructing congressional oversight, authorizing unlawful raids involving U.S. citizens, targeting minors during enforcement actions, and enabling the use of deadly force. The allegations reference several recent incidents, including the detention of a 5-year-old child and fatal encounters involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Minnesota.
“Secretary Noem’s tenure has been defined by a dangerous violation of public trust and a blatant disregard for constitutional protections,” the letter states, adding that her leadership has placed citizens and lawful residents “in immediate peril.”
Kelly introduced the impeachment resolution following the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a Minnesota woman, by an ICE officer. Federal agents also shot and killed Alex Pretti during a separate incident in Minneapolis last month. The resolution has drawn more than 187 co-sponsors.
In addition to the letter, the coalition announced plans for a national day of action aimed at pressuring lawmakers to advance impeachment proceedings.
