Monroe County, Florida — A fired Florida Keys sheriff’s deputy is accused of turning law enforcement databases and license plate readers into a personal tracking system after meeting a woman on the set of the Apple TV series “Bad Monkey.”
Lamar Eliseo Roman, 28, was arrested in March after the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said he misused law enforcement computers, networks, and electronic devices. Investigators said Roman met the woman while working a security detail, then searched official databases to find her driver’s license and vehicle information.
According to reports reviewed by 404 Media and Local 10, Roman placed the woman’s license plate on an ALPR “hotlist,” allowing him to receive location alerts when cameras detected her vehicle. Dashcam footage later showed Roman speeding on U.S. 1 and passing vehicles in a no-passing zone before pulling her over. The woman was not suspected of a crime.
Roman allegedly told investigators he knew the searches were improper and described the situation as “stupid.” NBC Miami reported that he was fired after his arrest.
The case has renewed concerns about automatic license plate readers, which can track vehicle movements in near real time. Court records show Roman entered a two-year pretrial intervention agreement on July 1.
