Representative Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, has called on her supporters for donations, labeling the current phase as the “fight” of her “political career.” Boebert, who currently serves Colorado’s Third Congressional District, intends to run for the state’s Fourth Congressional District, a seat being vacated by GOP Representative Ken Buck. The decision comes after a narrowly won reelection in 2022, which Boebert attributes to personal reasons.
Buck’s recent announcement of his resignation, effective at the end of the week, triggers a June special election for his replacement. This development complicates Boebert’s campaign as she will not be a candidate in the special election but will compete in the regular GOP primary. Facing several Republican contenders, Boebert’s reelection prospects have received mixed polling results. An early March straw poll placed her third among candidates, while a Kaplan Strategies survey in February showed her leading with a significant margin.
Boebert has also highlighted her financial advantage, with nearly $1.3 million in campaign funds at the end of 2023, outpacing her rivals. Despite her decision not to participate in the special election, she criticized Buck’s early departure, suggesting it could lead to voter confusion and disadvantage her campaign.
