The Villages, Florida — President Donald Trump launched a series of personal attacks against Rep. Ilhan Omar during a speech Friday, making inflammatory claims about the Minnesota Democrat and her background.

Speaking at an event in Florida, Trump called Omar “a phony” and repeated a long-debunked allegation that she married her brother, while also suggesting she could be under federal investigation without offering evidence. He additionally criticized Somalia, Omar’s country of birth, using harsh language to describe conditions there.

Omar, a U.S. citizen and one of the first Somali American members of Congress, has previously denied allegations about her personal life. Past reviews of the claim that she married a relative have found no verified evidence supporting it.

Trump’s remarks also touched on immigration, continuing a pattern of sharp rhetoric toward critics and political opponents. The comments come as immigration and cultural issues remain central to the 2026 political landscape.

Separately, Omar has faced scrutiny over financial disclosure filings, which she attributed to accounting errors after revisions significantly lowered reported assets.
