Brownsville, TX — Republican congressional candidate Eric Flores is demanding the removal of a Democratic-funded billboard that prominently highlights President Donald Trump’s endorsement and Flores’ support for ICE, positions he openly embraced earlier in the campaign.

Flores’ attorney sent Lamar Advertising a cease-and-desist letter arguing that the Brownsville billboard deliberately mimics his campaign materials and could mislead voters into believing it was authorized by his campaign.

The billboard, however, identifies Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez’s campaign as its sponsor, and the letter does not dispute its central claims: Trump endorsed Flores in December, and Flores has supported ICE.

The dispute comes as Flores appears to be deemphasizing his association with Trump. The Texas Observer reported that campaign signs prominently advertising Trump’s endorsement during the Republican primary have largely disappeared, with newer materials emphasizing Flores’ biography and professional background instead.

Democrats argue the change reflects the political environment in South Texas, where Trump’s approval has declined and aggressive immigration enforcement has become an increasingly contentious issue.

Flores’ campaign denies it is attempting to hide his Trump ties, maintaining that its objection is solely about the billboard’s design and potential voter confusion.

The billboard remained standing as of Friday despite the legal demand.
