Washington, DC — Katie Zacharia is leaving her job as White House press secretary after just five days, following a rocky debut and growing scrutiny over claims surrounding her legal background.

President Donald Trump told reporters Friday that he had given Zacharia an opportunity to “reconsider” the position. A White House official later confirmed she had been “let go,” while the administration publicly described her as “transitioning out” of the role.

Zacharia held only one formal White House briefing. Tuesday’s appearance lasted roughly 14 minutes, during which she took questions from just three reporters before abruptly ending the session. Trump initially defended the performance, saying she had done “very good.”

Her brief tenure became increasingly consumed by questions about her legal credentials. Zacharia graduated from Pepperdine University’s law school in 2011 and had previously described herself as having practiced law, but Reuters found no evidence she had ever been licensed in a U.S. jurisdiction. On Thursday, she acknowledged on Fox News that she failed the California bar exam and never retook it.

Zacharia had previously worked for Trump Media & Technology Group before replacing Karoline Leavitt.

Her five-day stint ranks among the shortest tenures for a senior White House communications official in modern presidential history.
