The White House reaffirmed Thursday that President Biden has no plans to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, before leaving office, following President-elect Trump’s election victory. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed, “Our answer stands, which is no,” adding that there are no intentions for a commutation either.
Hunter Biden was convicted in June for lying about drug use on a gun purchase application and unlawfully possessing the weapon, marking a historic first criminal conviction of a sitting president’s child. His sentencing is set for Dec. 4. In September, Hunter also pleaded guilty to nine federal tax charges, avoiding a second trial.
Trump recently suggested he might consider a pardon for Hunter Biden, stating, “I wouldn’t take it off the books.” He contrasted his approach with Biden’s stance, adding that Hunter has “been a bad boy.”
