Washington, DC — President Donald Trump is set to award the National Medal of Science to Elon Musk, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and AMD CEO Lisa Su during a White House science and technology summit Thursday.
The awards will be presented during the administration’s “Science: A New Golden Age Summit,” which is focused on artificial intelligence, technological innovation and U.S. competitiveness. The ceremony marks the first time Trump has presented the National Medal of Science during either of his presidencies.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell are also expected to receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. The White House said the honorees have made major contributions to American science and technology and are helping maintain U.S. leadership in innovation.
The selection also reunites Trump publicly with Musk after their high-profile political split in 2025. Musk had been one of Trump’s most prominent political allies and financial backers before the relationship deteriorated, but the two have moved closer again in recent months.
The medals are among the federal government’s highest honors for scientific and technological achievement and have historically recognized researchers, inventors and innovators whose work has had major national impact.
