Washington, DC — Congressional Democrats are demanding an investigation into Elon Musk after reports that he personally ordered restrictions on satellite service used by Ukraine’s military, a decision with potentially life-or-death consequences on the battlefield.

Sen. Adam Schiff called for Musk to testify before Congress under oath, saying either President Donald Trump or Musk has given a misleading account of who was responsible for slowing Ukraine’s access to the Starlink-linked Starshield network.

The restrictions reportedly affected Ukrainian drones, aircraft and helicopters traveling above certain speeds, disrupting military operations during Russia’s continuing invasion.

Musk initially said Starshield is owned and controlled by the U.S. government and that any restrictions ultimately come from the military and president. The Wall Street Journal later reported that Musk personally directed the slowdown after consulting administration officials, creating conflicting accounts about who authorized it.

Sen. Ruben Gallego publicly invited Musk to testify voluntarily, while Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Congress needs to determine whether a private billionaire was effectively “dictating our foreign policy.”

The scrutiny has become bipartisan. Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick also called for witnesses to be brought before Congress under oath, describing the matter as “very, very serious.”

The controversy raises broader questions about allowing a private company and its owner to wield extraordinary influence over military communications used by a U.S. ally during wartime.
