Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, warning of severe military escalation if the country does not reach a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said “time is running out” and warned that “all hell will reign down” if Iran fails to comply by the deadline. The warning follows escalating hostilities, including Iran’s downing of two U.S. military aircraft.
U.S. officials confirmed that an F-15E Strike Eagle and an A-10 Warthog were hit, with one pilot rescued and another still missing. Search-and-rescue operations remain ongoing.
The ultimatum comes as tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz intensify. The key shipping route handles roughly 20% of global oil supply, and disruptions have already led to sharp volatility in energy markets.
Recent U.S. and Israeli strikes have targeted Iranian infrastructure, while Iran has signaled limited openness to negotiations. Iranian officials maintain they have not refused talks, though conditions remain disputed.
Lawmakers in Washington are divided on the administration’s strategy. Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) criticized the handling of the conflict, while the White House maintains military objectives are close to completion.
The next 48 hours are expected to be critical in determining whether the conflict escalates further or shifts toward negotiations.
