Versailles, France – President Donald Trump signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran on Wednesday while visiting French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles, formalizing an interim agreement intended to end the U.S.-Iran war.

Trump signed the agreement during dinner with Macron after senior administration officials briefed reporters on the 14-point MOU. Reuters also reported that Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the agreement, while Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the text had been officially approved by both countries.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose government helped mediate the talks with Qatar, said the agreement takes effect immediately. He said Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States would lift its naval blockade as first steps.

The MOU calls for 60 days of negotiations toward a broader peace deal. It also commits the sides to halt hostilities across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, where Iranian-backed Hezbollah has been involved in fighting with Israel.

Major questions remain over Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, oil exports, and implementation. Trump told reporters in France that the 60-day timeline “could take longer” and is not a hard deadline.
