Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump renewed claims that he has “aced” multiple cognitive exams, drawing criticism from medical experts and political observers who say the tests he references are not designed to measure intelligence.

Trump said he has taken the Montreal Cognitive Assessment three times and performed perfectly, adding that he does so when critics question his mental fitness. The test is commonly used to screen for cognitive impairment and dementia, not to evaluate IQ or general intelligence.

Observers also pointed to inconsistencies in Trump’s descriptions of the test, particularly a portion involving identifying animals, which he has recounted differently on multiple occasions.

Critics argue that repeatedly boasting about passing a basic cognitive screening may raise more questions than it answers. Some medical professionals note that such exams are typically administered when there are concerns about cognitive decline, not as a benchmark of ability.

Trump has suggested that all presidential candidates should undergo similar testing, a proposal that has sparked debate over age, transparency, and standards for evaluating fitness for office.
