Washington, D.C. — Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., introduced a privileged resolution Tuesday seeking to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing him of continuing U.S. military operations in Iran despite congressional efforts to restrict the conflict.

Massie’s eight-article resolution alleges that Hegseth carried out military operations that exceeded executive authority and undermined Congress’ constitutional role in decisions over war. The measure also cites U.S. actions in Venezuela and Yemen, including the operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

“In all of this, Secretary Hegseth has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as Secretary of Defense,” Massie said on the House floor.

The Kentucky Republican has repeatedly supported war-powers measures aimed at limiting U.S. hostilities with Iran. House records show he backed resolutions in March, May and July directing the president to remove U.S. forces from unauthorized hostilities.

Because Massie filed the resolution as privileged, House leaders must address it within two legislative days. They could allow a direct vote or attempt to table it.

Hegseth previously faced a separate impeachment effort from House Democrats, who introduced articles in April focused largely on the Iran war and other allegations involving his conduct.

The new resolution comes as Congress continues debating the scope of presidential war powers. The House has already passed measures this year seeking to constrain the administration’s military campaign in Iran.
