Louisville, Kentucky — Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is traveling to Kentucky this weekend to campaign for Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) as the longtime congressman faces a difficult Republican primary challenge backed by President Donald Trump.
Boebert is among the few House Republicans publicly siding with Massie over challenger Ed Gallrein, who has received support from Trump-aligned political groups spending heavily in the race ahead of the May 19 primary.
The Colorado congresswoman is expected to appear alongside Massie at campaign stops in Shelby County and Oldham County on Friday. In a social media post, Boebert praised both Trump and Massie, calling them allies in preserving “freedom and liberty.”
Massie has become one of the Republican Party’s most independent lawmakers during his decade in Congress, frequently breaking with GOP leadership and Trump on spending bills, surveillance powers, foreign aid, and transparency issues involving the Jeffrey Epstein files. Earlier this week, Massie described himself as “the main event” on Trump’s political “revenge tour.”
The primary battle has attracted national attention because it highlights ongoing divisions within the Republican Party between traditional fiscal conservatives and Trump-aligned populists. Trump has increasingly targeted Republican incumbents who publicly oppose or criticize parts of his agenda.
Despite the pressure, Massie maintains strong support among libertarian-leaning conservatives and some anti-establishment Republican voters in Kentucky, making the race one of the more closely watched GOP primaries this cycle.
