Caleb James Williams, 18, was arrested on Tuesday at a polling station in Neptune Beach, Florida, for allegedly threatening two women, aged 71 and 54, with an 18-inch machete. The Neptune Beach Police charged him with aggravated assault and improper exhibition of a weapon. Florida law mandates a minimum three-year sentence for assault on individuals over 65.

According to Police Chief Michael J. Key Jr., Williams and seven other youths, some waving Trump flags, were “antagonizing the opposing political side,” where two women held signs supporting Kamala Harris. Key reported Williams raised the machete “over his head in a threatening manner,” leading one of the women to call 911. Police responded within a minute and apprehended Williams.

Duval County Democratic Party Chair Daniel Henry condemned the incident, emphasizing that “violence and intimidation have no place in our democratic process.” The Duval County Republican Party also released a statement calling for calm and acknowledging law enforcement’s swift response.

Police confirmed that only Williams faced charges, with other juveniles in the group not meeting the threshold for arrest.
