WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump intensified rhetoric toward Iran Tuesday, warning that “a whole civilization will die” if tensions escalate, drawing sharp criticism from Democratic leaders and some concern among Republicans.
The comments came hours before a self-imposed deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route. Trump indicated potential U.S. strikes on infrastructure if demands are not met, though no final decision has been confirmed.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called Trump “an extremely sick person,” while several Democratic lawmakers raised the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment, which allows for the removal of a president deemed unfit for office.
