WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former Attorney General Pam Bondi will not comply with a House subpoena seeking her testimony on the handling of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, according to congressional officials.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee had scheduled Bondi to appear for a deposition, but the Justice Department said she would not attend because the subpoena was issued while she was serving as attorney general. Officials argue she is no longer obligated to comply in that capacity.

Lawmakers from both parties have expressed frustration with the Justice Department’s handling of Epstein-related materials, viewing Bondi’s testimony as critical to their investigation. The subpoena was approved on a bipartisan basis, including support from several Republican members.

Committee Democrats accused Bondi of avoiding legal obligations and raised the possibility of holding her in contempt of Congress. Such a move would require additional Republican support and a full House vote.

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, who introduced the subpoena, said Bondi may still be required to appear for a sworn deposition as the committee considers next steps.

The dispute adds to ongoing tensions between Congress and former administration officials over access to information tied to the Epstein investigation.
