Washington, D.C. — Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon is publicly warning fellow conservatives that enthusiasm among core MAGA voters appears to be slipping as Republicans look toward the 2026 midterm elections.

Speaking Saturday on his War Room program, Bannon said polling data shows a “massive lack of enthusiasm” within the Republican base. He argued that the warning signs are not anecdotal, citing assessments from GOP-aligned pollsters who have raised concerns about voter energy and engagement. According to Bannon, many supporters are expressing fatigue and uncertainty rather than excitement about the party’s direction.

Bannon referenced recent polling from Big Data Poll, led by Republican pollster Rich Baris, which found Democrats holding a significant advantage among voters who describe themselves as “extremely enthusiastic” about voting. The survey showed Democrats with a double-digit edge in that category late last month. Baris said Republican prospects could improve, but only if conditions change quickly.

Bannon also pointed to commentary from pollster Mark Mitchell, who argued that President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have declined as his administration moved away from initiatives that once energized the base. Mitchell wrote that voters are reacting to what he described as internal party infighting, shifting priorities, and a governing approach that appears reactive.

Bannon said Texas is emerging as a particular concern, warning that Democrats are making gains and highlighting the state’s upcoming primary elections as a critical test for Republicans.
